Why it's holistic
- Al Moudira's wellbeing comes from pace and place.
- Relais & Châteaux, which lists the hotel, says time slows here in step with the gentle flow of the Nile.
- Courtyards, fountains and shaded patios, with gardens of palm and lemon trees, give guests quiet corners; the farm supplies fresh ingredients for the table; and the spa adds a hammam and Ayurvedic treatments for the heat of the day.
- The hotel stands close to the ancient sites of Thebes, so sightseeing and rest sit side by side.
About
Six kilometres and the Nile separate Al Moudira from the centre of Luxor, and guests cross by bridge or by the colourful shuttle ferries. It sits on the west bank near ancient Thebes and the Valley of the Kings, a honeycomb of ten courtyards built with materials rescued from vanishing historic buildings and set among palm groves and gardens. Zeina Aboukheir created it, and a local team runs it. Rooms are individually decorated with antiques and treasures from across the Middle East. Meals use produce from the hotel's own farm and are served in the Ottoman room, the main courtyard or the poolside pavilion. The spa has a hammam and Ayurvedic treatments.
