Why it's holistic
- The Retreat builds its wellness around geothermal seawater and a set sequence.
- Guests move from dry heat to a cold plunge and a steam bath, rest in quiet spaces beside the Retreat Lagoon, and finish with the Blue Lagoon Ritual, which the resort presents as a meeting with the water's silica, algae and minerals.
- The setting does part of the work: lava rock encircles the lagoon, and the spa is built into an 800-year-old lava field.
- Because spa access is included for hotel guests, the days can be paced around it.
About
The Retreat sits in an 800-year-old lava field on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, beside the Blue Lagoon. It has 60 suites, and its Retreat Spa is built into the volcanic earth. The spa moves from dry heat to a cold plunge and a steam bath, with quiet spaces beside the terraced Retreat Lagoon, a private lagoon encircled by lava rock, where natural silica adds a distinctive texture. The journey ends with the Blue Lagoon Ritual, which the resort builds around the water's silica, algae and minerals. Spa access is included for hotel guests. Reykjavik is about 40 minutes away and Keflavik Airport 20 minutes. Spa guests can also book the Lava Cove, a private spa suite with its own lagoon.
